Clip Studio Modeler FINALLY officially in English!

The version 1.8.0 release of Clip Studio FINALLY has an official English language version of MODELER!!

Ok, here's the catch: it's not the FULL version of Modeler.

You'll still have to create your models in some other program.  This is just the FREE bits, which is everything Clip Studio Coordinate (also a free program) could do for setting up 3D assets.  However Coordinate never got an official release in another language or outside of Japan, so this pared-down version of Modeler is more than we got before!

Presumably, at some point, they'll also unlock the other features of modeler for an additional license fee.  But for now you can't actually MODEL in this version of Modeler.

You can go download it here:

Hi, I just downloaded the new modeler, and started playing/reading. (and searching) It brought me to your site. So is there a good site for discussion and stuff about using the product? Also, is there a high level...here is what you can use the models in the modeler for (I assume in Clip Studio Paint?) Thanks, and sorry for the newb questions, but just starting out on this!

The English-language version of Modeler is actually only the part of the original Japanese app that is for "model set-up" of native format files for the Clip Studio apps. This is if you want a character model with different facial expressions, clothing, hair, signature poses, exclusive accessories; or articulated objects; or backgrounds with preset camera angles, etc. These "packages" of models and options will only work with the Clip Studio apps, however.

If you don't need all those options you don't need Modeler. Clip Studio Paint can import FBX, OBJ, and a bunch of other 3D model formats.

The original Japanese version of Modeler also have actual modeling tools in it for building characters, objects, and scenes from scratch. But you can make the model parts in whatever 3D software you want (I believe publisher Celsys actually made their model parts in Autodesk Maya).

Clip Studio Paint isn't free, but it is completely worth investing in as a webtoon artist. It has a lot of things designed for webtoons, and comics in general. Lots of perspective and symmetry rulers, panel and speech balloon tools, 3d models to figure out complicated poses/angles or even just use directly for background elements, a lot of potential with auto actions, brush customizations and countless free assets that are incredibly useful. You can even make lineart with vectors to keep things looking good even when you resize.
If you're looking for a free software to create webtoons, anything will do, medibang, krita, mypaint, Firealpaca and etc. It just won't give you the benefits that clip studio offers.
